Nomad's Story

Nomad Internet is an Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Crystal, Michigan. Nomad is a division of Great Lakes Communication Company (GLCC), a telephony service and installation company established in 1967, operating from the same Crystal location at 122 Lake St..

Nomad is a company focused on providing customers a comprehensive solution to their current and future Internet access needs. The company’s customer base will include families, individuals, small and large businesses. Its approach to customer service will be its defining criteria.

To some Nomad may be viewed as being a late comer to the ISP industry. However, through careful consideration and planning, Nomad has positioned itself to provide a better, more cost efficient service than its competitors. By waiting, Nomad was able to enter the market and provide service at a lower cost then its competitors. For more information on competition see page ##.

2. Broadband Wireless Internet access

Currently Nomad is concentrating on the middle portion of West Michigan. Primarily the counties of Montcalm, Gratiot, Mecosta and Ionia. Services will ultimately be provided to cities, villages and townships in each of these counties. Nomad’s objective is to continue to provide access to more rural communities where needs are growing. This opens the way for Nomad’s price structure and allows an immediate positive impact on the residents.

Traditionally an ISP will enter a community offering dialup service only. Nomad has positioned itself to offer both dialup and high speed wireless at the same time. Due to the virtual lack of competition in rural areas, ISPs have been slow to roll out its high speed access. This gives Nomad, in some cases, the advantage of being first to offer Broadband to some communities.

History:
Nomad Internet is a division of Great Lakes Communication Company that was established in 1967. Great Lakes is a successful telephony manufacturer, service and installation provider. Its clients include companies like Verizon, Ameritech and Sprint. Great Lakes designs, engineers and installs voice, video and data systems for residential and commercial uses.

Current Status:
Nomad is a culmination of a plan that began nearly 10 years ago. With his focus on technoloy, General Manager Mark Winslow utilized company resources to concentrate on PC business solutions, software solutions and the emerging use of the Internet. Utilizing existing GLCC resources, Nomad has entered the Internet Provider (IP) business with significant advantages other IPs did not. Nomad has a specialized knowledge of the telephone industry including new and emerging technologies, video, voice and data equipment, high tech installations, antenna components and installations and most importantly a network of satisfied customers that have given GLCC and Nomad a solid reputation within the technology field.

Nomad has engaged a marketing strategy designed to educate, attract and retain customers for a long time. With GLCC’s longevity in the area it is appropriate that Nomad develop a grassroots plan that follows the same path. Nomad’s plan will include a commitment to each community in several different ways.
